I’ve been invited to tour the incredible Galapagos Islands, as a guest of Florida-based Ecoventura Tours. The company has been leading yacht expeditions through the islands since 1990, on their fleet of 16 to 20 passenger boats. Vessels leave every Sunday from San Cristobal, which is the gateway to the Galapagos.
The week-long cruises visit a number of islands, and include all of your food, drinks (including alcoholic bevvys) and the use of kayaking and snorkeling equipment. Daily excursions have visitors doing everything from hiking through a lava field and spotting giant tortoises, to playing with sea lions and swimming with dolphins.
It goes without saying that I’m most looking forward to getting a glimpse of the incredible wildlife, and hope to spot at least a couple of those adorable penguins.
This is also a paradise for divers, and those on board the dive-live aboard boat can expect a number of opportunities to get up close and personal with hammerhead sharks (!). Rates start at $3,800 per person.
Our expedition sets off in March, and I also plan on visiting Quito and Guayaquil before hopefully making my way over to Colombia for some beach time. In the mean time, check out Ecoventura’s website for a better idea of what I’m in store for.
