The Phoenix Resort, Belize: 5 great reasons to book a stay

The lively town of San Pedro in Ambergris Caye is one of the most visited spots in Belize, luring travellers with its sparkling blue water, sun-soaked streets and palm-fringed stretches of white sand.

Those looking to unwind have plenty of options to choose from when it comes to accommodation, and there’s one special spot in particular that truly ticks all the boxes: The Phoenix Resort, which is consistently rated as one of the best places to stay in Belize.

Here are five reasons you’ll want to book into this fantastic all-suite hotel during your next visit.

Highlights of The Phoenix Belize: The rooms

The set-up of the Phoenix resort lends itself to long-term stays, as the rooms are more like condos than a typical hotel room.

Ranging in size from one-bedroom, 1100 square-foot units to sprawling three-bedroom suites, there’s a room type that will suit everyone from couples to families to groups.

Each includes a spacious kitchen with all the necessary gadgets for those who like to cook their own meals, a living room, bathroom with a shower and jet tub, washer/dryer and a massive balcony complete with loungers and a table for al fresco dining.

The resort was cleverly constructed so that every room boasts an unobstructed view of the pool area and ocean, and its compact size means that one set of stairs is usually all that stands between you and the pool, ocean or bar.

Location of The Phoenix Resort in Belize

Located smack-dab in the middle of the island, The Phoenix’s envious perch means it’s a quick walk to popular spots like the town centre, San Pedro airport and ferry terminal.

There are plenty of grocery stores just down the street for stocking that fancy kitchen, as well as souvenir shops, bars and restaurants.

The resort was built right on the waterfront which makes it easy to catch the spectacular Caribbean sunrises right from your room, and has easy beach access (though it’s worth noting guests won’t want to lounge on it—very few resorts in San Pedro have beach areas since the beaches themselves aren’t big enough).

Amenities at The Phoenix

You could easily spend an entire week at the Phoenix without needing to leave for anything. The on-site Red Ginger restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and guests who prefer to eat in the comfort of their suite (likely decked out in a bathrobe, because vacation) can order room service.

The Sol Spa offers a variety of massage and aesthetic services for those wanting to indulge in a bit of pampering, and there’s also a gym, business centre, playground and children’s corner on site.

Of course, the pool area is the Phoenix’s crown jewel, where there are two heated saline pools including an infinity pool that looks out past a grove of swaying palm trees to the Caribbean Sea.

There are plenty of loungers and plush towels, and attentive pool bar staff who serve up colourful cocktails all day long. Does it get any better than that?

The inclusions

Actually it does get better than that, thanks to all of the complimentary extras that The Phoenix Resort provides for guests. Transfers from the airport or ferry terminal are included, and bicycles, kayaks and standup paddle boards are all available to borrow. Guests have access to area gyms including a crossfit facility, and there’s also a morning yoga class twice per week.

The fun continues once the sun starts to set, with nightly activities such as wine tasting, chocolate tasting and adult paint nights.

But it’s safe to say the most popular pastime is the daily cocktail hour from 5-6 pm, where guests can mingle while sipping on wine, beer or rum punch—all complimentary, of course.

The little touches

Finally, from friendly staff who seem to know your name before you even walk through the door, to the cell phone provided to each guest to use during their time on the island should they need assistance for any reason, nothing is overlooked here.

Guests might walk into their room to find sweet treats and a rum bar with a personalized note set up, the staff bend over backwards for any request (don’t even think about picking up your own bag—it’s handled!), and there’s a whole stockpile of items available for forgetful folks to borrow such as sunscreen, tweezers, even stain remover.

Twice-daily housekeeping keeps suites spotless, and fans of Molton Brown products will be thrilled to find a whole line of the luxe amenities lined up in the bathroom.

What I liked best was the fact that the suites are so spacious. The fact that there are rooms with 3 bedrooms too make it ideal for families to head to during the holidays.

  9. Your photos say it all even without five reasons! That view, that pool, that sunset…I’d book it in an instant! And then you mentioned all the amenities and the gorgeous, luxurious rooms… I am totally sold. And Aveda products are a nice bonus 🙂

  10. I love getting places that have a small kitchen. It can make a week-long say nice if you don’t have eat out every night.

I like how they have a wine hour to drink and meet a few of the other guests.
