The Canalta Lodge has an enviable location right on Banff Avenue, after taking over the site of the former Spruce Grove Inn and undergoing an extensive redesign.
The property reopened in December 2017, revealing a bright, cozy decor that seamlessly blends modern touches like statement light fixtures and pops of sunshine yellow with accents one expects from a hotel in the heart of the Rocky Mountains: think plaid wallpaper treatments, bathroom hooks shaped like deer and a gorgeous front desk fashioned out of logs.
The Canalta Lodge evokes a sense of community that few Banff accommodations have managed to do, starting with the open foyer framed by luxe leather couches, fireplaces and huge windows that make the most of the surrounding scenery.
The welcoming common area is where guests can enjoy a complimentary breakfast spread each morning, or grab a steaming mug of hot cocoa and snacks from the Happy Camper Coffee Shop.
There are also plenty of board games on hand, and plans for the outdoor area include fire pits, a hot tub, sauna, plunge pool and even an evening s’more service.
Travellers of all types will feel right at home in the lodge, which has 112 rooms in various configurations to suit every type of group. Families will want to book one of the lofts or suites, which can sleep up to 10 people on an array of king beds, pull-out couches and bunk beds. They also include a full kitchen, dining area, two bathrooms and fireplaces. Travellers who don’t want to leave their four-legged friends at home will appreciate the fact it’s one of the few pet-friendly hotels in Banff, and millennials love the value Canalta Lodge offers, with inclusions like breakfast, heated underground parking, Wi-Fi, ski storage and a full gym.

Banff is such a great place and it sounds like this is in a great location. Love the decor, especially the log front desk and coffee table. The heated underground parking is a winter bonus for sure!
Isn’t the decor just the cutest!?
The lodge looks gorgeous! You had me at hot cocoa and s’mores! The ski package sounds like a great deal.
The lodge is so fab!
I love the front desk fashioned out of logs! It is nice that they have some suites set up for families, that is something more places should do.
I know, so hard to find great rooms for groups isn’t it!
What a gorgeous lodge. Love the room decor – modern with a rustic feel. That’s a really great deal on the ski package. Wished I lived closer to Banff!
I would absolutely want to stay at Canalta Lodge if I was ever so luck to travel to Banff. I love that it evokes a sense of community. It says a lot about a lodge or hotel if it can manage that, especially one with as many as 112 rooms.
Canalta Lodge seems so cozy and the common area is gorgeous! I love the fact that it is a pet friendly hotel!

The Canalta Lodge sounds like it’s a fabulous place to stay – I LOVE the cozy cabin feel / rustic look but not sacrificing on modern luxury. The whole place is beautiful, and it’s fabulous that they foster an atsmophere of community. Thanks for the tip! Location obviously killer too!
The first look of Canalta Lodge is truly charming and your review has given me all the reason to believe why it has shaken the accommodation scene of Alberta’s popular mountain town. Décor is fabulous and good to know their pet loving policy. Loved to see how they have used that old style lamp next to bed.
I love the lanterns too!
Banff has been on my list for awhile now and this lodge looks incredible! I love how they combine styles in decor; it feels rustic and modern at the same time. Love the pops of yellow!
