Bosnia

Waterfalls, a monastery built into a cliff and enchanting towns are among the highlights of Bosnia.

Bosnia is a destination that has somehow remained relatively unexplored and off the beaten path, much to the delight of those who include a stop here on their Balkans itinerary. Start in the capital Sarajevo; its war-torn past makes this a fascinating place for history buffs.

Bosnia is a fantastic road trip destination, and great stops include Una National Park, Jajce which has the 17-metre-tall Pliva Waterfall right in the city centre, colourful Banja Luka, and Blagaj which is home to one of the country’s most photographed sites: Velagić House and a monastery, both dramatically built into the side of a cliff.

If there’s one place that’s not to be missed on a Bosnia itinerary, it’s enchanting Mostar beloved for its picturesque bridge Stari Most which arches across the Neretva river right in the centre of the old town. Be sure to tack on time for this day trip, which includes some of Bosnia's top sites.
