The mountain town of Canmore, Alberta just might be one of the province’s best-kept secrets for those wanting a getaway in the majestic Canadian Rockies. Only 15 minutes away from world-famous Banff National Park, it has a lively town centre and offers the same easy access to incredible hiking trails, ski hills and alpine lakes as Banff, yet has mostly managed to avoid being overtaken by the throngs of international tourists who descend on Banff Avenue year round. With that in mind, those in-the-know book in at one of the Canmore resorts instead. Here are five reasons to stay in an affordable, spacious suite in the heart of town, at Basecamp Resorts in Canmore.
1) Rooms for all types of stays
Whether guests are visiting for a couple’s getaway, guys’ trip, family vacay or even a wedding, Basecamp Resorts has a room type to fit every need. Solo adventurers or twosomes will be comfortable in a studio or one bedroom suite, while larger groups can choose from configurations of up to six bedrooms (!!) spread out over multiple levels with more than 2000 square feet of space to enjoy. Each unit includes a full kitchen, dining table and ensuite laundry making this property perfect for longer stays, and some also have a private patio and access to a natural gas BBQ. 2) The amenities
Free parking. Free WiFi. Fresh, in-room coffee. Luxe bath products from local favourite Rocky Mountain Soap Co. These are just a few of the amenities included with every stay at Basecamp Resorts, making it one of the best places to stay in Canmore when it comes to value.
And that’s not all: guests love unwinding in the cozy, warm sauna at the neighbouring The Lodge property at the end of a long day on the hill, which is the perfect place to relax those sore muscles. If that doesn’t do the trick, there’s always Basecamp’s amazing rooftop hot tub which has a lounge area and fabulous views of the surrounding Bow Valley. Spa-ahhh.
3) Great location
Canmore is the kind of place where everything is in a great location–yes, the town is that pretty! Basecamp Resorts is no exception, found just a couple minutes off the TransCanada Highway coming in from Calgary, and on a main strip with plenty of amenities like restaurants, a gym and a spa right across the street. It also borders the popular Legacy Trail bike path making it a cinch to cycle all the way to Banff, and those craving a fit fix can head to the Elevation Place recreation centre just around the corner. Canmore’s downtown area is a 10-minute walk away, and also where Basecamp’s boutique sister property Lamphouse Hotel is found.
4) It’s pet-friendly
As one of the few pet-friendly hotels in Canmore, Basecamp Resorts is a great option for those travelling with their four-legged friend in tow. Dogs are welcome for an additional $25 per night, and there’s a grassy pathway right behind the lodge which is a great spot for a stroll. As a bonus, parking spaces are allocated to each room based on location for easy access, which means no trekking across the entire parking lot with all your gear while trying to manage that feisty Fido.
5) Easy check-in
You know when you finally make it to your hotel after a long day of travelling, only to find the lineup at the front desk stretching out the door? Or you pull out your key card only to find it demagnetized, or even worse, you lost it altogether?
Well, those travel troubles will never happen at Basecamp Resorts, thanks to an easy check-in system. Access codes for each units are emailed out on the day of arrival, and can be used during the duration of the stay so there’s no fumbling around to find keys. Easy peasy! It’s worth noting that there’s still a front desk at The Lodge next door where staff are able to assist with any needs that arise, but not having to depend on them for check in/out is a huge time saver…and means more time to explore those glorious Rocky Mountains.
