The sun beamed down, warming my skin as I sunk into the beach lounger with a chilled glass of white wine in hand. I could hear cicadas humming all around, and water cascading into the private plunge pool behind me. A father and his young daughter giggled as they played volleyball on the sandy beach just in front of me, framed by a backdrop of the shimmering Ionian Sea.

I’d been here at the Kontokali Bay Resort less than an hour, and already the stress of a long travel day had completely melted away.
Sorry Corfu, the sightseeing might have to wait another day.
Why Kontokali Bay is one of the best places to stay in Corfu
The Kontokali Bay Resort and Spa is located on the eastern shores of Corfu, a popular holiday spot off the northwest coast of Greece. It’s worth spending at least a week exploring the relatively large island which is known for its jaw-dropping views, clear water and postcard-worthy Old Town of Corfu which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The resort is considered one of the best places to stay in Corfu thanks to its luxurious rooms and beachfront overlooking picturesque Kontokali Bay, impeccable service, excellent restaurants, the stunning infinity pool and easy access to the old town.
There’s also a free shuttle that takes guests into the city every morning, as well as easy access to public transportation for exploring the island.
Chic enough that adults have a reason to dress up for dinner or book in for an afternoon of pampering at the spa, it’s also a great option for families with plenty of on-site fun like a games room, playground and daily activities to occupy little ones. Click here to book
Rooms at the Kontokali Bay Resort & Spa
One of the standout features that makes the Kontokali Bay Resort one of the best hotels in Corfu are the rooms, which all have their own balcony, terrace or even private plunge pools. With views of the marina or sea, suites have everything you need for a relaxing stay including bathrobes, slippers and an excellent bottle of wine upon arrival.
The resort’s layout means the pools and beaches are a quick walk away no matter where you’re staying, and with more than a dozen different room types there are options for all group sizes whether you’re visiting with the whole family or on a romantic couples getaway.
With space for three to five guests, the clever configurations include couches that double as day beds in the Family Sea View bungalows, and sliding doors in the Deluxe Suites to create more privacy between the bedroom and living room which has a pullout couch.
Some bungalows look out at gardens of cypress, olive and pine trees, and inside you’ll find everything you need for your vacation like huge bathtubs, in-room safes, coffee and tea stations and seating areas.
The most impressive rooms are undoubtedly those with freshwater pools, including the Junior Suite Seafront overlooking the water and the Presidential Two Bedroom Suite which has two bathrooms, a separate living room and huge pool with views of the Ionian Sea. Click here to book
Activities at Kontokali Bay Resort
Those who manage to pull themselves away from their fabulous rooms will find plenty to do around the resort which boasts a gym, boutiques, boat rentals, tennis and volleyball courts, cooking and yoga classes, and nightly entertainment.
The crown jewel is the outdoor pool, which seems to stream right into the sea. It’s particularly impressive at night, when tiny underwater lights illuminate it to look like a galaxy of stars.
Out on the beaches, guests can soak up the sun on one of the many loungers or curl up under a palapa while enjoying cocktails from the beach bar. You don’t even need to get up to order, since there are call devices attached to each umbrella meaning a server is only the quick push of a button away.
For even more rest and relaxation, head to the Kontokali Spa which has a hammam, sauna, indoor heated pool and huge jacuzzi that are free for all guests to use. Get your zen on in the relaxation area, or book a treatment like a facial, body scrub, body wrap or massage. Esthetic services like manicures, pedicures and hair styling are also offered.
Dining options at Kontokali Bay Resort
Whether you’re in the mood for authentic Greek cuisine, casual poolside fare or an elegant fine dining experience, the Kontokali Bay Resort has you covered.
The Panorama Lobby Bar near the main pool features a gin trolley that’s fun for happy hour, the Marina Food Court and Parea By the Beach both serve up meals with a sea view, while Asterias Fine Dining has elevated Mediterranean cuisine in a beautiful venue fit for celebrating a special occasion.

In the evening, fill up your plate from one of the many food stations that change daily, and be sure to save room for their huge dessert selection!
How to get to Corfu
The Kontokali Bay Resort is centrally located on the east side of the island, just a 20 minute drive north of Corfu Town, the port and airport. There are plenty of low-cost, direct flights to the island from places like Athens and London, and Corfu is also a popular cruise ship stop.
