Sandals Grenada reviews: What to expect during a week in paradise

With its dazzling infinity pools, luxe suites, four villages nestled into a lush hillside and a perch along one of the island’s most pristine beaches, the Sandals resort in Grenada makes for an idyllic tropical getaway.

Sandals Grenada reviews

Considered by some insiders as the best hotel in the popular resort chain, this posh property has a great location near some of the best things to do in Grenada, and has serious wow-factor hence why most Sandals Grenada reviews are glowing!

Take the Pink Gin Village Pool for example, which looks straight out to the gem-toned sea and comes alive at night with a fireplace nestled right in the centre, surrounded by a plush seating area.

Or the ‘pools in the sky,’ where those lucky enough to be staying in an adjoining suite get to enjoy sweeping views from the privacy of their own plunge pool, while a butler stands at the ready with a chilled glass of champagne.

Overview of the Sandals Grenada resort

Despite having more than 250 rooms, there’s so much to do at Sandals Grenada that it never feels crowded, and most guests spend sun-soaked days lounging on the beach, cooling off in one of the many pools, or hitting the water in the serene bay leading out to the Caribbean Sea.

The afternoon brings colourful cocktails, therapeutic spa treatments and fun activities spearheaded by energetic staff, and when the sun sets fine dining experiences and incredible live entertainment awaits.

Location of the Sandals hotel Grenada

One thing Sandals has come to be known for is the desirable location of each of their properties, which are usually found near the best beach on each island. The same goes for the Sandals in Grenada, which is tucked into a series of green, rolling hills on the country’s southern tip, serving up panoramic views in every direction.

The resort is right along the idyllic Pink Gin Beach, which has soft white sand that sparkles against the warm, protected bay.

Sandals is literally a two minute drive from the airport, which is incredibly convenient after a long flight and for those wanting to maximize every possible minute of beach time.

Initially I was worried that being located within a stone’s throw of a runway would mean extra noise overhead, but was pleasantly surprised to discover there are only a few planes each day, and due to the wind patterns we never even heard them until right when they touched down.

It’s actually quite entertaining to watch the jumbo jets land or takeoff in such close vicinity, and a treat to be able to enjoy every precious moment in paradise instead of being stuck in a car driving a long distance to an airport.

Sandals Grenada rooms

Private infinity pools. Huge balconies with sea views. Deep soaker tubs, luxe linens, and bathrooms so big they’re probably twice as large as your first apartment. Welcome to hotel heaven.

Despite the huge variance in price points, there truly isn’t a bad room to be found at Sandals Grenada, with each having its own unique selling point. For example, while the Pink Gin rooms are among the property’s smallest, they also have one of the most prized locations right along the beach.

Guests staying in the Lover’s Hideaway Village in the newest part of the resort are a bit of a walk away from the sea and main restaurants, but those tranquil surroundings make for a serene escape (and a chance to get up close and personal with the green iguanas who frequent the lagoon).

Those looking to indulge during their Grenada holidays will want to consider the impressive SkyPool Butler Suites, which are perched high up in the Italian Village overlooking the resort and boasting fabulous sea views.

With a living room, dining table, butler’s pantry and luxurious bathroom with marble vanities, a frosted shower and clawfoot tub, there’s plenty of space to spread out.

The spacious bedroom has a king size bed, and leads out to the suite’s private infinity plunge pool which can also be accessed from the oversized patio which has a tranquility soaking tub and plush sofas.

Another fab option in the Italian Village are the Italian Swim Up Butler Suites, which have an open-plan bedroom and sitting area, a walk-in closet, wet bar and oversize bathroom. The room’s best feature is found outside, where the private deck (with a soaker tub, privacy curtains and seating) leads straight into a huge infinity pool.

While this pool is shared with a handful of other rooms, chances are you’ll usually have the whole thing to yourself.

Another splurge-worthy room type is the Rondoval Butler Suites, which are freestanding, round villas complete with a 20-foot conical ceiling, king-size mahogany bed, fully-stocked wet bar and gorgeous exposed bathroom complete with a stone soaking tub.

A highlight is the private, walled-in yard which boasts a spacious patio with sun chairs, plunge pool and waterfall whirlpool, making for the ultimate romantic escape. Click here to book

Sandals Resort amenities

Whether you’re perfectly content lazing about on a blissful beach all day long or have a Type-A personality that can’t ever sit still, there are so many ways to spend a day at Sandals Grenada that you’ll never find yourself running out of things to do.

Active types can take advantage of the modern gym, tennis courts and complimentary water sports like snorkeling, hobicats and sailing, while those looking to chill will love relaxing on Pink Gin Beach or around one of the large pools.

Water Sports at Sandals Grenada

There are two main pools on-site, both with volleyball nets, food and drinks service, and plenty of floaties:

  • Pink Gin Village Pool- Closest to the beach, no music is played here during the day so you can fully relax. It’s especially gorgeous at night, when the gas fireplace nestled in the middle is lit up.
  • South Seas Main Pool- This spot has a fun Vegas vibe to it, with a live DJ, swim-up bar, huge loungers and fun activities (oh hey, bar top dance party!) throughout the day.

Globe Guide note: If you plan to hit the beach as soon as you arrive, keep your swimsuit handy since it can sometimes take a couple of hours for baggage to be delivered to the rooms.

To indulge in some pampering in paradise, book in at the Red Lane Spa which has eight treatment rooms for services like manicures, pedicures, rejuvenating facials and body scrubs as well as a steam and sauna which all guests have access to even without a spa appointment.

Their massage therapists are also incredible–I seriously enjoyed one of the best massages of my life at Sandals Grenada, which just so happened to be out on the pier while listening to the rhythmic sound of waves gently lapping at the shoreline, and capped off with champagne and chocolate fondue for two. Heavenly!

Dining experiences at Sandals Resort Grenada

With nearly a dozen eateries to choose from featuring all different types of cuisine, you’ll never go hungry here.

In fact, many guests enjoy impromptu food crawls throughout their stay, like sampling sushi at Soy during happy hour, savouring perfectly-grilled Kobe beef or surf ‘n turf at Butch’s Chophouse, then heading next door to the Italian-themed Cucina Romana to share tiramasu for dessert.

Dining at Sandals Grenada

Start the day by sipping on fresh squeezed orange juice at the breakfast buffet, nosh on wood-fired pizza served by the pool at Dinos Pizzeria for lunch, or try the Caribbean concoctions served up at Neptunes which overlooks the beach.

Be sure to stop into Cafe de Paris to sample their nutmeg ice cream which is absolutely divine (this is the Spice Island, after all), and book in for the interactive experience at Kimonos where comical chefs create Asian-inspired dishes prepared teppanyaki style.

Activities at Sandals Grenada

When Sandals says everything is included, they mean it.

Fantastic nightly performances, volleyball games, tennis clinics, workout classes, beer pong showdowns, flip cup matches, trivia contests and bocce ball are just some of the wide variety of free activities offered every day, along with water sports like hobicats, windsurfing and snorkeling trips to a neighbouring island.

Heck, scuba dives are even included for certified divers, which is an incredible added value considering how expensive it would usually be to head out on one of the fantastic the deep dives around these parts.

There’s also a tour desk where excursions around the island can be booked, but keep in mind their prices are inflated compared to other operators in Grenada so it may be worth booking something separately ahead of time if you’re watching your budget.

A great way to explore the island is to hire a private driver for the day to see the surrounding beaches, spectacles like Annandale Falls, and serene spots like Grand Etang National Park where there’s a crater lake in an extinct volcano.

To get a glimpse of local life on the island, book a Reading Road Trip where you’ll get to visit with adorable school children in their class room and read books together–a fun excursion that’s sure to pull at your heart strings and leave you grinning from ear to ear.

There’s also an opportunity to donate supplies to the class or even sponsor a child, for those so inclined.

Trips are organized by the Sandals Foundation, which has been giving back to the communities their resorts operate in since 2009, by donating books and computers to schools, encouraging guests to ‘Pack with a Purpose’ and even hosting dental professionals to do free clinics, fillings and extractions for those in need.

The atmosphere

Similar to other properties within the resort chain, guests at Sandals La Source are typically from the USA, Canada or the UK, and between 30 and 50-years-old. This makes for a fun, cool crowd, with people lining up for afternoon beach volleyball games, cheering during dance parties at the pool, and loud nights inside the packed Tipsy Turtle Pub.

It’s easy to make friends here as you’re sure to bump into familiar faces throughout your stay…however, if you’d prefer to simply cozy up to your plus-one and whisper sweet nothings to each other, that’s totally OK too!

Sandals did a great job of designing dedicated areas in the resort for both partying and relaxing, so there are plenty of spaces to enjoy no matter what your speed is.

Sandals Grenada

Sandals butler service

There’s yet another reason that Sandals is considered one of the top Grenada luxury resorts: the butler service. Yup, many suites have an entire team ready to attend to your every beck and call, who’ve been trained by The Guild of Professional English Butlers.

Need your shirt pressed, or clothes unpacked while you hit the pool? They’ll do that. How about arriving back to your room every afternoon to find your fave cocktail waiting? Consider it done. Breakfast in bed, scheduling tours and photoshoots, reserving the best pair of loungers on the beach and stocking a cooler with bevys…yup, they do all that too.

Breakfast in bed, a rose petal bath and champagne are just a few of the experiences your butler can arrange

Our butlers for the week were Alex, Dawniesha and Kirt, a charismatic, attentive trio who we shared many laughs (and selfies) with throughout our stay. It’s easy to feel like fast friends, and not uncommon to see guests hanging out with their butlers whether it’s heading off on a scuba dive together or facing off over the billiards table.

No request was ever too much for them, like running back to our room to retrieve a forgotten battery or obscure asks such as tracking down a GoPro cord and sourcing a screwdriver to put together kiteboarding equipment. Guests get a mobile phone (which we liked to call the Bat Phone) with a direct line to their butler team, so they can be reached 24/7.

Even when we tried to give our butlers a day off, we’d return to our suite to discover surprises like chocolate chip cookies waiting in case we had any late-night cravings, and the outdoor tranquility tub filled with bubbles and decorated with rose petals.

Globe Guide note: While Sandals has a no-tipping policy, butlers are exempt so be sure to tip them at the end of your stay–they deserve every penny!

Pricing for a Sandals Grenada all inclusive stay

With so many different room types, there are packages to fit most budgets whether you’re looking for a fun, sunny escape with friends or splurging on a Grenada honeymoon. Nightly rates for the Pink Gin Grande Luxe rooms perched right on the beach are around $300 USD per person, while premium suites like the SkyPool Butler Suites and South Seas Butler Villas start at $715-$865 USD per person.

There are also special Sandals Grenada deals offered for return guests, and the opportunity to take advantage of additional savings or perks by joining their e-mail list or following along on Facebook.

All food, beverages, activities, Wi-Fi, airport transfers and tips are included, while there are additional charges for spa services, premium wines and excursions. Flights are also additional, which Sandals is happy to assist with booking. Click here to book

Things to do in Grenada

It takes about half an hour to drive from Sandals Grenada to the capital St. George’s, which is definitely worth doing to experience life on the island.

Head to the main market to shop for packets of nutmeg, paprika and cinnamon that the so-called Spice Island is famous for, head up to Fort George for birds-eye views of the pastel-hued city, and soak up the sun on the shores of Grand Anse Beach or nearby Morne Rouge.

  1. Hello
We had to postpone our wedding and honeymoon till next year in September 24 to October 8 what is the weather there like around that time?
    Thank you

    1. Hi! To be honest I don’t have a specific recommendation for a driver, since there are tour companies on the ground who can arrange private tours so I’m sure most of them are great! The excursion desk at our hotel was able to organize a driver for us so that’s an option as well.
