The Rocky Mountains are always a popular pick when it comes to weekend getaways in Alberta, thanks to the stunning views, revitalizing fresh air and a chance to leave the hustle and the bustle of the city behind.
Combine all that with some much-need pampering, rest and relaxation, and it’s easy to see why Alberta’s wellness retreats are so popular.
From nordic spas to spiritually-minded retreats, here are three spots guaranteed to leave you in a state of bliss faster than you can say spa-ahhh.
Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise Wellness and Meditation Retreats- Lake Louise, Alberta
A weekend at the iconic Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise is one of the most coveted Alberta getaways, and their wellness and meditation retreats take the wow-factor to a whole other level. Hosted during spring and fall, the well-curated programs in Banff National Park are centered around themes including yoga, mindful eating, creative writing and the mind-body connection.
Each retreat is a few days long, and the daily schedule typically includes a morning yoga practice, two instructional sessions and a group dinner, as well as plenty of free time (because you’ll definitely want to get out to explore—Lake Louise is easily one of the prettiest places on the entire planet!).
The Fairmont brings in world-class experts to facilitate the sessions, such as Dr. Eva Selhub who taught at Harvard for over a decade and has appeared on shows including Dr. Oz, and best-selling author Sophie Uliano who has shared her approach to wellness with the likes of Oprah and Julia Roberts.
With group sizes capped at just 15 participants, it’s an incredible opportunity to learn from acclaimed experts in an intimate setting, and allows for plenty of time for empowering discussions.
Add to that the luxe accommodations, gourmet meals and impeccable service that guests get to enjoy during their stay, and it’s no wonder people come from all around North America to enjoy this special Rocky Mountain retreat.
Pricing: Packages start at $800 per person based on double occupancy, and includes accommodation at the beautiful Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, meals and sessions.

Kananaskis Nordic Spa- Kananaskis, Alberta
Need some me-time, but only have a day to spare? Then you’ll want to head to the Kananaskis Nordic Spa, found a 45 minute drive from Calgary.
Tucked behind the luxe Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge (the former Delta Lodge at Kananaskis) and surrounded by soaring, majestic peaks, this peaceful sanctuary is based on the Scandinavian concept of hydrotherapy which sees spa-goers relax in a hot room like the Finnish sauna or crowd-favourite eucalyptus steam room.
Next up is one of the warm outdoor pools, before shocking your bod with a dip in a frigid plunge pool. The final step is to relax in one of the loungers or cozy-as-a-cocoon hammocks, before repeating the circuit all over again.
The Kananaskis Nordic Spa has five outdoor pools, six sauna and steam cabins, an exfoliation room and outdoor fire pits, and guests are welcome to socialize with each other (development plans include a separate quiet area for those seeking more serenity).
The well-appointed locker rooms also have plenty of tools like hair dryers and curling irons, which makes it easy to spend a day at the spa then get ready for a night on the town. Cozy robes are available to borrow, both in classic white and a decidedly-Canadian red tartan style.
Pricing: The day rate is $70, and the fee is waived for those who sign up for their massage services.
